Table Tennis is one of the most popular sports in the world, it’s constantly bringing together players from all walks of life. It’s a great family game and is especially popular with teenagers and adults! The game of table tennis is timeless and makes years & years of fun.
It was in England, in the late 19th century, that the game of table tennis first made its appearance. The first game looked very different from today’s setup, it was played using a champagne cork as a ball, cigar boxes as bats, and books for the net. At that point, table tennis was seen as a mere distraction for the wealthy classes.
In 1890, David Foster, introduced the first game of tennis on a table. In 1897, the first national championships were organized in Hungary. Following a trip to the United States, in 1901, James Gibb brought back a celluloid ball, and bats covered in rubber. From that moment on, It was game on for the history of table tennis!
Table tennis relies on simple equipment: a table, net, bats (rackets), and table tennis balls. At Encore, we offer a full line of rackets, balls, carry cases, table covers, and accessories: Our rackets start at $7.95 and go up from there. Our table tennis equipment is made from the best quality materials to ensure years of use and fun!
Indoor tables are usually made from a high density particleboard and are best used indoors with no weather or liquids nearby to endanger the surface of warping.
Our outdoor table surfaces consist of resin which can withstand elements including weather such as rain and liquid drinks and therefore are perfect for outdoor use, without risk of damage.
For professionals, competition tables have permanent legs to provide a level of solidity that can withstand most anything. Additionally professionals use foam rubber bats with rubber sides to provide both precision and control.
Most of the tables in our stock are folding and come on wheels to provide for easier maneuvering and storage. They also have a playback feature so a player can play by themselves.
From beginner, to expert or professional, for home, school, business and institutional use we have a table to suit every type of player.
If your space doesn’t allow for a separate table tennis next to a pool table, we also sell table tennis conversion tops that lay right over your 7′ or 8′ pool table. The net & post easily clamp on to the sides of the table.
